Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Program

NEMT provides transportation for community residents that need non-emergency medical transportation including:

  • Doctor’s appointments
  • Hospital discharge
  • Dialysis appointments
  • Behavior Health treatments
  • Physical Therapy appointments
  • Pharmacy visits/Rx refills
  • Outpatient services
  • Dental appointments 

Medical transportation provided locally to the San Carlos, Bylas, Globe/Miami, Safford areas as well as to the Phoenix-metro area and the Tucson-metro area.

NEMT provides transportation to ALL patients, with or without AHCCCS

While transported by NEMT, patients must abide by the following rules:

  • By law, all patients must wear their seatbelts and children must be secured in a car seat at all times
  • Patients who are intoxicated will not be transported
  • No alcohol, drugs, smoking or any other tobacco use
  • No weapons
  • No profanity
  • No disruptive behavior

 

*NEMT has the right to refuse services to patients not complying or for misuse of transportation

**NEMT will not be responsible for any personal belongings left in transportation vehicles

NEMT DRIVER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a valid Arizona driver’s licesne and be insurable by the SCAT insurance
  • Must provide a five (5) year Motor Vehicle Report from the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicle Division
  • Must have a current First Aid/CPR Card
  • Must pass background check that includes local/tribal, state and federal

 

DRIVER TRAINING

In addition to driver qualifications, NEMT drivers must complete annual training requirements:

  • Customer service, courtesy and sensitivity awareness
  • Driver conduct
  • Vehicle orientation, pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Safety driving course
  • Passenger assistance techniques course
  • Confidentiality/HIPPA
  • AHCCCS trip report instructions
  • Documentation requirements such as complaint/incident procedures
  • Infection control
  • Child car seat installation
  • Use of fire extinguishers
  • Wheelchair lifts
  • Fraud/waste
